12/29/5: Practical information about Seizures (thank you Carol Corrigan for the phone call to tell me about the thumb pull that Dr Cowden taught her about, who might have either shared this info or gotten this info at the Heavy Metal Detox Conference of Dr Klinghardt’s where I first heard about it) but here it is:
1.) To stop a seizure you can try the following & it may work: Place both thumbs together (however it is possible, in the moment it is challenging when you start trying to be specific about positioning…if I learn that the positioning is in fact the most important part I will post) of the person seizing, then gently pull them toward you and up by the thumbs, squeezing the thumbs together. This is supposed to hit the meridian points that send a signal to the brain…It really is supposed to work…on my son’s last seizure it did not seem to change the course.
2.) From Dr Amy Derksen…if the child stops breathing during the seizure you can tap firmly (but gently) where a mustache would be using at least four fingers as the tapping surface.
3.) From my mainstream neurologist after my son had the first seizure that included not breathing & his lips turning blue…The only two real mistakes that can result in long term injury to a person having a seizure are:
a. NOTgetting whatever is in their mouth out …as soon as they suck their breath in with a big air suck (which he told me 99.99999% of the time they do) they will suck in whatever is in their mouth. You need to sweep out whatever is in the mouth during the small pause before they tighten & clench their jaw. If you miss this opportunity, after this phase of the seizure passes & they start to try to breath you can dislodge the item with your basic choking victim move of pressure on the lungs from behind, forcing air up & out along with the object. This is also known as the Heimlich maneuver and pics are at this link…. A guide for a choking infant…which they should only need the rescue breathing part. Generally, their heart rate speeds up vs. slows down or stops.
b. Performing air compressions that are so hard they actually blow holes in the lung tissue. Now having tried to do air compressions on my son a few times I have to say this…it just doesn’t seem like the anatomy & physiology allows any air you might get in to go anywhere during a seizure anyway…& our neuro only told me about this when I asked him about giving air…he never suggested it as something we would need to be ready to do…suggesting to me that it is not a successful approach during a seizure anyway…and as soon as the seizure subsides they return to breathing (actually, in my son there is a phase when he is not breathing & then he breaths in big air sucks & pauses for a while, then really shallow breathing while he is still obviously in an altered state, & then he usually “passes out” from exhaustion…which is also very normal reaction, & not cause for alarm…letting them sleep for an extended period during this phase should actually be very healing for them…& many parents report a general state of improvement following seizures.
Seizures: what was written…12/24/5
Do Seizures damage the brain…NO! Should seizures be stopped with medication…most of my alternative docs say…NO! One of the leading organizations in healing brain injured people is the Institute in Philadelphia thinks NO! & THEY SEE MORE BRAIN INJURED PEOPLE THAN ANYONE!)
Here are the Institutes articles on it:
The Nature of seizures & anti-convulsant considerations &
A BILL
OF PARTICULARS ON SEIZURES AND DISCONTINUING ANTICONVULSANTS

& Dr Steenblock thinks it initiates stem cell growth in the damaged area but that this can be outweighed by the Apoxia (lack of oxygen) if it is a grand mal seizure where they stop breathing & lips turn blue (like my son’s last night).
The rest here is just Dayblog entry…but I liked it so I will leave it here:
Bottom Line: I am going to stay with the three Depakote a day…hope that the seizure was a “healing crisis” that resulted in stimulation of stem cells that the MME will then grow! & that it acted like a guidepost for the stem cells we injected saying: “Hey we need the troops over here!!!” This isn’t just wishful thinking…this is hope based on my interviews with the docs that know the most about stem cells & seizures fertilized by my ever-optimistic brain that perhaps did some pruning of the potential down side!
Thought is power…words are powerful…intentions create reality & my son is healing with each passing moment & as time passes will shock almost everyone with his amazing transition to neurological health! I must not question his timeline, for like every child “blessed” with anything but perfect health, they are here to teach us something powerful! My son’s job, along with his journey, is simply more comprehensive than most! I envy no one’s success, but celebrate each child that shows improvement no matter how small…in fact…I was trying to explain to my husband what I am seeing in our son (I am sitting in the Calgary warehouse alone with my son on Christmas Day…waiting for the rest of my family who have agreed to come vs miss out on this opportunity for our son to heal more with more time spent under the MME…hearing his laughter come from under the MME. He has laughed before, but not often. He has felt good before, but not on a regular basis until we went to FuturesUnlimited & adopted an appreciation for the need to down regulate his neurological system.
Go forth & Heal! We are!
